Down Colaba Causeway from Mondy's, Leopold Cafe (or Leo's) is another long standing Colaba institution. Popular long before 'Shantaram' was published, Leo's is suspected to be named after the Belgian King (the bar owners seem to think he was Australian!). Either way, this cheery and hyperactive pub is always full of people guzzling down beer and gorging on Mutton Tikkas and Chicken Fry. Pictures of Elvis, Hollywood oldies, and original artwork by obscure Mumbai artists grace the walls, in addition to a blow-up of a trillion dollar note. Having no doors further adds to Leopold Cafe's welcoming spirit. The service is quick and polite, and impersonal - true to Mumbai-ishtyle. You have to pay for your liquor beforehand though, owing to multiple unpleasant experiences involving a 'live for the moment' type of patron and one too many of Leopold Cafe's famous beer-bongs. The yuppy brigade favors Leo Square, the cosy club lounge upstairs, but stags aren't allowed.
